VULNERABLE FAMLIES IN KWABHACA AND EMAXESIEBNI TO OCCUPY NEW HOMES

VULNERABLE FAMLIES IN KWABHACA AND EMAXESIEBNI TO OCCUPY NEW HOMES

Umzimvubu Local Municipality is expected to handover three new homes to vulnerable families in
KwaBhaca and EmaXesibeni. The housing project took the Municipality three (3) months to complete at
a total cost of R600 000. These households are in the following areas at Umzimvubu:

Ward 7 – Sikhumbeni Village
Ward 18 – Badibanise Location
Ward 21 – Mpindweni Village

“The growth of informal settlements in our area necessitates that we are seen to be at the forefront of
initiatives aimed at tackling the challenge. The importance of this intervention is not only to prevent
failure to provide adequate shelter and housing but to also create sustainable communities” said
Umzimvubu Mayor, Cllr Zukiswa Ndevu.

“Although it is mandated for the Department of Human Settlements to build houses, the Municipality has
adopted this approach to assist the most vulnerable families in our communities. It is also pleasing to
note that the Municipality has since been identified as an implementing agent, on behalf of the
Department of Human Settlements. The project is set to commence during the 2023/2024 Financial
Year”, concluded Cllr Ndevu.

The project created 15 job opportunities and invested an amount of R 23 400 on labour. Herworship,
Cllr Ndevu is expected to hand over these new homes in the next few coming weeks. Details of the
handover programme will be communicated in due course.
