UMZIMVUBU RANKED THE TOP PERFORMING MUNICIPALITY IN THE EASTERN CAPE
PROVINCE
KwaBhaca – Umzimvubu Local Municipality has been ranked as the top performing municipality in
the Eastern Cape province. This follows an overview report compiled by the Auditor General South
Africa (AGSA), regarding the Eastern Cape Local Government Audit Outcomes for the 2021-22
Financial Year.
According to the report, only 2 Municipalities performed above 90% of their set targets for the
financial year under review. Umzimvubu managed to achieve 96% followed by Kouga Local
Municipality at 94%.
“The Municipality welcomes the report by the Auditor General. We acknowledge that more still
needs to be done to mitigate our shortfalls, so that our communities may reap the fruits of a working
Municipality” said Umzimvubu Mayor, Cllr Zukiswa Ndevu.
“We believe that we have good systems in place to monitor our expenditure patterns in line with the
MFMA. This we also believe will be a crucial lever for us achieve more milestones in the near
future” concluded Cllr Ndevu.
During the same financial year, the Municipality managed to achieve an unqualified audit opinion
from the AGSA. The Mayor further emphasized on managing the municipal cash flow, to generate
cash backed surpluses to fund future capital expenditure.
This paints a positive trajectory in terms of a working government and the Municipality remains
committed in fostering quality, basic services to all its communities.
