UMZIMVUBU MAYOR CONDEMNS THE CIRCULATION OF FALSE INFORMATION REGARDING A ‘CONFIRMED COVID-19 CASE’ AT UMZIMVUBU

Umzimvubu Local Municipality has been advised on false information circulating on social media regarding a “confirmed case of the novel coronavirus” at Umzimvubu. The circulation of this post has since caused unnecessary panic and fear amongst local residents.

During the District Joint Operations Committee on COVID-19 held this morning, 28th March 2020 at EmaXesibeni, the Department of Health confirmed that no cases of COVID-19 had been registered under Umzimvubu.

“We plead with the public to refrain from circulating false information on this matter. The sensitive nature of the issue relies only on authentic reports, which can only be shared by the Department of Health” said Cllr Mnukwa.

The public is urged to continue following updates on any official municipal social media platform for local developments.

“The municipality pleads with the people of Umzimvubu to remain in their homes and abide with the President’s declaration of a 21 day National Lockdown. Nkosi sikelela iAfrika” concluded Cllr Mnukwa.
