UMZIMVUBU MAYOR APPRECIATES FOOD PARCEL RELIEF FROM LOCAL DONOR IN KWABHACA

17 APRIL 2020 – FRIDAY
Umzimvubu Mayor, Cllr Sobane Mnukwa together with the Department of Social Development received and appreciated food parcels delivered by a local donor in KwaBhaca. The recipients of this initiative are those who are unable to work amid the regulations put in place to contain the novel coronavirus.
The donation aids to benefit 25 local residents and have been distributed as follows:
  • 10 parcels have been allocated to ward 18 residents
  • 15 parcels will be distributed across various wards in KwaBhaca.
The initiative follows the pronouncement made by the President for a nation-wide lockdown amidst the Covid-19 pandemic. “The commitment to serve our communities has never been more important as we collectively navigate the unprecedented challenges posed by this global pandemic. The Covid-19 pandemic is affecting communities quite harshly, with some losing jobs and sources of income.” said Umzimvubu Mayor.
“In another effort to alleviate hunger, we have called upon local residents and businesses for food parcel donations. We thank the Good Samaritan for the wonderful gesture posed towards our people during this crucial period in our lives. Indeed, this is a collective fight and I urge all other business to join the initiative and help fight this pandemic together” concluded Umzimvubu Mayor.
A local resident who was among those that benefited from this initiative said, “I am very happy and would like to thank the local businesses for working together with our government during this lockdown. I was very worried when the President announced the lockdown because my source of income is made through selling metal and part time painting. The grocery received here today has made a difference and will keep me going until the end of the month”.
Another donation from a local business will be received at Lubaleko Hall on the 18th April 2020 at 10 am, EmaXesibeni. The municipality continues to advocate for compliance from local residents to remain at home during this period so as to flatten the curve of the virus.
