Umzimvubu Local Municipality welcomes the arrest of two Municipal officials by the Directorate of Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) earlier today. The officials have been arrested on account of alleged fraud and corruption in the Municipal Traffic Department at EmaXesibeni.
A criminal case has been opened with the South African Police Services (SAPS) in KwaBhaca and the two accused employees are expected to appear in the Mount Frere Regional Court on the 27th October 2020 (Tuesday).
“The Municipality welcomes the arrest of the accused and will continue to comply with all law enforcement authorities to ensure that there’s pertinent transparency throughout this process” said Umzimvubu Municipal Manager, Mr Tobela Nota.
“The Municipality also intends to facilitate an internal investigation upon which the allegations have been based on. More details will be made public upon the completion of this process” concluded Mr Nota
