UMZIMVUBU LOCAL MUNICIPALITY TO HOST THE 11TH ANNUAL TOURISM DAY CELEBRATIONS

On the 20th September 2019, Umzimvubu Local Municipality will host the 11th Annual Tourism Celebrations at EmaXesibeni Tourism Centre. Heritage Month is celebrated annually in September and recognises aspects of the South African culture which are both tangible and intangible. This years’ Heritage Month will be celebrated under the theme, “Celebrating South Africa’s literary classics in the year of indigenous languages”.

The theme is in line with UNESCO’s declarations of 2019 as “the Year of Indigenous Languages” to afford the international community to develop, promote and, to collectively celebrate indigenous languages and honour official heritage sites. “Heritage celebrations have created a conducive environment for all people to embrace and celebrate what was inherited or bestowed upon us by our descendants.” added the Honourable Mayor Sobane Mnukwa.

A 35 year old community resident, Nothemba Jindela said, “We are grateful for the initiative brought forward by the government of the day. The opportunity to celebrate our cultural heritage as AmaXesibe and AmaBhaca comes once in a while. As a traditional resident I’m pleased with the platform provided and urge government to do the same in other areas” she concluded.

The much anticipated event will take place as follows:

Date: 20 September 2019
Time: 10:00 AM
Venue: EmaXesibeni Tourism Centre in Mnqwane A/A
