UMZIMVUBU LOCAL MUNICIPALITY SEEKS FOR FURTHER INVESTIGATION INTO ALLEGATIONS OF GBV THAT IMPLICATE THE SPEAKER OF COUNCIL.
The Municipality has been advised of an alleged Gender-Based Violence (GBV) matter that implicates
the Speaker of Council, Cllr Happy Ngqasa. This comes after the Municipality lodged a formal enquiry
into the matter with the South African Police Services (SAPS). Umzimvubu Local Municipality has
since received confirmation that the matter is due for a full investigation.
“Cllr Ngqasa will be required to cooperate with law enforcement agencies during this period. Any act
of violence towards women and children is a very serious offence, and the Municipality will decisively
deal with it once all processes have been finalised”, said ULM Chief Whip, Cllr Florida Ngonyolo.
The public will be updated further on the matter upon the completion of the said investigation.
