UMZIMVUBU LOCAL MUNICIPALITY MAINTAINS AN UNQUALIFIED AUDIT OPINION FROM
THE AUDITOR GENERAL.
The Auditor General of South Africa (AGSA) has given Umzimvubu Local Municipality an
unqualified audit opinion, noting that the Municipality is in a solvent position and able to meet its
financial obligations. The audit outcome follows a maintained audit opinion that was attained in the
previous financial year (2021/2022). The AGSA has also found that Umzimvubu is able to continue
providing quality basic services to its residents, which is a significant improvement from the
previous financial years.
The Municipality hails the unqualified audit opinion and whilst there is still little to improve on, the
Municipal Council will continue to exercise its oversight role by monitoring the implementation of the
audit turnaround strategy.
“The audit opinion comes at a time when we ought to implement our risk adjusted strategy as a
measure to rapidly increase the pace of service delivery to our communities. Whilst there is more to
be done, I’m confident that we will have a suitable team that can meet the obligations of our
constituencies. By this, I want to commit that we will continue in our concerted efforts to manage
our cash flow and generate cash backed surpluses to fund future capital expenditure” said
Umzimvubu Mayor, Cllr Zukiswa Ndevu.
“The municipality previously had material findings on assets, revenue and receivables amongst
others, however this outcome has demonstrated a significant improvement from the previous
financial years. As this Municipality, we remain cognisant on the path to deliver basic and quality
services to our communities. Together we can build better communities” concluded the Mayor.
