For the 2019/2020 Financial Year; Umzimvubu Local Municipality has invested an amount of seven (07) million to construct community halls as outlined in the Municipal Integrated Development Plan (IDP).
“Community facilities extend the community’s capacity to conduct activities, develop links amongst people, and build self-help and mutual support. These facilities provide focal points for formal and informal community interactions” said Umzimvubu Mayor, Cllr Sobane Mnukwa.
The progress made in four facilities among others is as follows:
Dungu Community Hall (Ward 19)
– The community hall is 100% complete. An amount of R1.9 million has been invested on the project which created more than 10 job opportunities for local residents in the respective ward. An amount invested on labour is R370 020.00.
Ntlabeni Community Hall (Ward 13)
– The community hall is 100% complete. An amount of 1.9 million has been invested on the project which created more than 12 job opportunities for local residents in the respective ward. The amount invested on labour is R134 690.00.
Mkhonqo Community Hall (Ward 25)
– The community hall is 70% complete. An amount of 1.8 million has been invested on the project which also created more than 10 job opportunities for local residents in the respective ward.
Tholeni Community Hall (21)
– The community hall is 75% complete. An amount of R1.7 million has been invested on the project which created more than 12 job opportunities for local residents in the respective ward.
“Democracy only works when the people are empowered to participate, and good governance can only be achieved through leaders who listen. That, I believe, is what we have at Umzimvubu. These facilities are going to become a place of vibrant debate, conversations and collaboration” concluded Cllr Sobane Mnukwa.
The community facilities will be handed over to the respective residents upon completion.
