UMZIMVUBU LOCAL MUNICIPALITY CONDEMNS THE ILLEGAL TRADING OF COVID-19 PERMITS

08 APRIL 2020 – WEDNESDAY
Umzimvubu Local Municipality has been advised on the ‘Illegal Trading of Lockdown Permits’ which is alleged to be conducted by unidentified individuals from society. The municipality would like to place it on record that ‘no permits’ are sold and further warns the public not to succumb to this criminal activity. Individuals found guilty of this horrendous act will be prosecuted and fined.
“It is really disappointing to learn that there are individuals taking advantage of a dire situation to further please their interests. The President of the Republic of South Africa was clear when he declared that opportunism will not be entertained and will be strongly dealt with. The municipality yearns to send a strong message to all culprits through intensive law enforcement. This activity will be monitored on a daily basis” said Umzimvubu Mayor Cllr Sobane Mnukwa.
The municipality advises the public to note that permits are ONLY obtainable from Municipal offices at EmaXesibeni and KwaBhaca during working hours from 8:00am – 16:30pm. These forms are only used for essential services as contained in the regulations and are NOT to be used for long distance travelling.
Members of the public are further reminded not to purchase any permits from any individual, but rather report such incidents to the following contact persons:
