Some say the Youth of today have demolished the true meaning of the Uprising of 1976, but with the Umzimvubu Local Municipality it’s a different story. In celebrating June 16 (Youth Month), the Youth of Umzimvubu had a Choral Music Competition at EmaXesibeni Town Hall, where three schools participated (St George’s High School, Mt Ayliff Hospital J.S.S, and Nolitha Special School) showcasing their God given talent.

The schools had 3 songs each to perform, the first song (Umphuma mkhosi) was composed by Mr. Celebration Ntungwa who’s well known for composing songs for a number of songs for recognised competitions, then the second song was chosen by the schools and the third was the combination of 20 pupils from each school making one choir.

The Hon. Mayor of Umzimvubu, Councillor K.S. Phangwa graced the event and encouraged the young people to shy away from violent protests. “You are the future of this country you need not to involve yourselves in violent protests as they destroy what we already have, let us all together embrace our democracy”, said the Mayor. All schools were winners and they all got R10 000, 00 each with a trophy.
