On the 21st of September 2017, Umzimvubu Local Municipality will be hosting the 9th Annual Tourism Celebrations at the Tourism Center in EmaXesibeni formerly known as Mount Ayliff. This year’s event will be held under the theme: “We Do Tourism Sustainably”. The event seeks to emancipate and promote all emerging local cooperatives within the area. It’s pleasing to note that these celebrations have grown from strength to strength since their inception in 2009. Various activities including; stick fighting, exhibition of traditional foods, flea market, indigenous games, wine and whiskey tasting are some of the much anticipated activities from the upcoming event.

According to the Honourable Mayor, Cllr Bulelwa Mabengu “Umzimvubu Local Municipality has the sole responsibility of creating economic stability through its local businesses. While these celebrations also seek to encourage emerging cooperatives in the area, the municipality wants to profile the region as a tourism destination. The indigenous landscapes in the area along with the exuberant artwork on modern huts are some of the few attractions we’d proudly want to be identified with.”

“Crafts are not only a form of capturing history and telling stories, residents can make use of these skills to emancipate themselves and their communities. Umzimvubu Local Municipality continues to embrace and cherish our heritage, culture and tourism in many ways to say the least” she concluded.

The details of the event are as follows:
