Lights were flashing, people glowing and the night was bliss as Umzimvubu Local Municipality hosted its 3rd Annual Fashion Show successful. With dignitaries including the Alfred Nzo District Municipality Deputy Executive Mayor, Sixolile Mehlomakhulu, Internationally recognised designers such as Bongiwe Walaza and Nosipho Diko of Nguni Shades, the event showcased a glare of a similar fashion to those you will find in the big cities like Johannesburg.

As part of ULM’s mission to assist and develop local talent, models are sourced locally and a coordinator or expert in the fashion industry is appointed to train the local models, both males and females. Contesting in different categories such as best overall designer obtained by L.A. Creations, best contemporary wear won by Y.B. Designs, best accessories awarded to Zvifunge Designs, best high street won by L.M. the Junior as well as Rafkat Creations who was the recognised local designer.

Municipalities such as Hibiscus in Kwa-Zulu Natal, Ingquza and Ntabankulu graced the occasion. Supporting the initiative, ANDM sponsored the event.

Speaking and setting the tone for the event, Ntabankulu Local Economic Development Manager, Mrs. Ndlaku emphasised the importance of grooming local talent and appreciating the strides and initiatives local designers make. “Such activities encourage local designers to further develop themselves and be encouraged to showcase in National platforms”, she said. Umzimvubu Local Municipality hosted the event for the 3rd time this year and it is growing from strength to strength with each year getting better to best.
