ULM Honours Local Businesses and Ratepayers!

The fifth Annual SMME and Ratepayers award ceremony was held by Umzimvubu Local Municipality at KwaBhaca Town Hall formerly known as Mount Frere on Thursday 22 June 2017. This event was organised by the Local Economic Development Department together with Budget and Treasury. As the country celebrates this year as the year of O.R.Tambo under the theme “Unity in Action”, the municipality finds it more reasonable to give back to the community in terms of recognition and appreciation to all the ratepayers while motivating the development of local businesses through encouraging them to work together to achieve a sustainable economic environment and improved organisations by the year 2030. “The revenue that is contributed by the ratepayers to this municipality has made a huge difference towards developing the standard of our communities and the economy as well, it is therefore the reason that the municipality has decided to host these awards annually with the objective of supporting, motivating and encouraging the ratepayers to pay their rates while pursuing local businesses to be involved in healthy competitions that enables sustainable growth for the local businesses”, said Mr G.P.T Nota who is the Municipal Manager.

Different categories from both business sector and the ratepayers section from around the municipality were invited to gather for this prestigious ceremony. These categories included but not limited to the Ratepayer of the year, Taxi driver of the year, Agricultural crop and Livestock farmer of the year, Restaurant of the year also the most improved business of the year, respectively judged by the criteria that were explained for each category. KwaBhaca Soli’s Spar was announced as the most supporting business to SMME’s. This year’s event was honoured with the presence of one of the most successful business men originating from this district, Mr Dan Pasiya who is the owner of DAN’s Country Lodge based at Umtata. Mr Dan gave out strong words of empowerment to the municipality, SMME’s and the ratepayers to continue on building a fruitful working relationship for the benefit of a well maintained economy.​​​
