On the 3rd of August 2017, Umzimvubu Local Municipality Mayor Bulelwa Mabengu handed over the Nkanji to Molwana Acces Road in ward 2, EMaXesibeni (Mt Ayliff). The R 3, 3 million access road stretches for 2km and was funded through the Municipal Infrastructure Grant (MIG) in aid of fostering basic service delivery. The planning, implementation and maintenance of basic infrastructure is critical for sustaining basic standards of living and economic activity in our Municipality.

According to the Honorable Mayor Cllr. B.P Mabhengu,” The road will assist local communities with their day to day activities especially when it comes to gaining access to basic government services. These community members will also be able to trade with businesses who support commercial farming. The access road was built on putting people and their concerns first by ensuring constant communication through effective public participation platforms.. We therefore call upon on our communities to actively take part in public participation meetings and assist us in shaping Umzimvubu for the better” she concluded.

The community members who attended the handover ceremony were pleased with the implementation of the road infrastructure and encouraged the same practice in other areas of the municipal region. Zandile Mathunya, was the youngest person who attended the ceremony and said,” We’re grateful for the access road constructed by the municipality. As a young person of this community, I will now be able to visit businesses who support local farmers on a day to day basis without having to worry about the wet weather as it would get muddy and difficult for cars to drive by”.
