Umzimvubu Local Municipality has learnt of the tragic incident that transpired at Huku Senior Secondary School. The municipality has been advised that two suspended learners and one community resident allegedly attacked a female learner and one of the high school teachers during second period. It’s also alleged that the three suspects were armed with guns and under the influence of alcohol.

According to the Honourable Mayor, Cllr B.P Mabengu,” Violence in general is an act we strongly condemn in all schools. Learners ought to be disciplined scholars who present themselves with dignity at all times.

It’s heart-breaking for our ward 14 community to have been exposed to such violence and we condemn it in the strongest terms. I call upon our law enforcement authorities to bring those responsible to book”. She concluded.

The school is said to have been closed until further notice.

According to one of the high school teachers, Mr Mbulelo Mavundla,” The school has scheduled a parents meeting for the 8th of May in order to address the violent act. Another separate case of rape and theft will also form part of the agenda.” He concluded.

One casualty is said to be reportedly recovering at EmaXhegwini Community Clinic.
