UMZIMVUBU RESPONDS TO THE UNFORTUNATE ACCIDENT INVOLVING THE MAYORS OFFICIAL MUNICIPAL VEHICLE

On the 27th April 2020, Umzimvubu Local Municipality learnt of the unfortunate accident involving the Mayors Municipal Vehicle on the N2 between Mount Frere and Qumbu.

The municipality confirms the report and is currently undergoing a solemn widespread investigation on the matter. The Municipal Manager will table a comprehensive report to council upon the completion of the investigation. This will be informed by the municipal telematics system and the municipal vehicle policy.

The aforementioned vehicle is said to be damaged beyond repairs, however the municipality can confirm that no injuries or loss of life has ensued as result of this incident. The Municipal Manager, Mr Tobela Nota, pleads with the media to refrain from publishing unconfirmed reports on the incident, until the widespread report is finalised and made public.

“The municipality remains committed in observing transparency throughout the matter. This is one of many unfortunate incidents that the municipality deals with on a day to day basis. However, I want to urge the public to remain confident in the municipal processes in dealing with the matter. I also advise the media to refrain from unprecedented reports, but to remain patient until the final report is made public.” concluded the Municipal Manager.

As the country continues to observe the nation-wide lockdown, Umzimvubu Local Municipality pleads with residents to take strict precautionary measures in public areas and most importantly to stay at home.
