Umzimvubu Mayor, Cllr Sobane Mnukwa joined the roadblock interception at Pakade Junction this morning, together with the Alfred Nzo District Municipality Executive Mayor and the Honorable Ntabankulu Mayor.

The visit follows a pronouncement made by the President earlier this week regarding the COVID-19 lockdown. Despite efforts made by law enforcement officers and robust communication on preset guidelines, motorists are still moving between towns.

"I strongly urge all residents to stay at home for the next 21 days. Failing to do so will result in heavy penalties being issued out against those found guilty" said Umzimvubu Mayor.

"Under the circumstances we ought to remain at home and prevent the further spread of the virus" concluded the Mayor.

South Africa has recorded its first two deaths today, since the dawn of the novel coronavirus.
