The lives of local residents in a rural village in Kwabhaca previously known as Mount Frere have been transformed by the maintenance and construction of the Mbodleni and Nkanini access roads that link-up with the Provincial T Road near the N2. More than 200 residents from the area will now benefit from the newly constructed roads.

The R2.1 million project combined seeks to provide an easier access to essential government services and other economic activities in the area. Moreover the project has benefited over 17 residents in their respective special groups with an invested amount of R 125 400 on labour.

According to the Honourable Mayor, Cllr S Mnukwa “The project shows working together we can do more. These roads will now connect these community residents to economic opportunities.”

“As part of encouraging local economic development, local subcontractors are being given work opportunities to assist the main contractors. This is to ensure that local people are increasingly being employed to do the work, contributing to job creation and skills transfer in the community.” he concluded.

The roads are expected to be officially handed over to the Mbodleni and Nkanini community residents as follows:

Date: 19 June 2019

Time: 10:00

Venue: Dukuzakadabula Community Hall
