Umzimvubu Local Municipality is hosting yet another induction for councilors conducted by SALGA. The purpose of this induction conference is to induct councilors about the Local government structure and to equip the councilors with the necessary knowledge, value systems and attitudes. This year will mark the first time SALGA initiates its five year initiative whereby councilors will receive NQF accredited certificates at the end of their term. The councilors were given a handbook which is to be their “Bible”, in terms of the Constitution, legislature implementation and code of conduct moving forward to 2021.

The handbook consist of four modules; module 1 consists of the foundation or framework for the councilor induction process, which the Municipality has already done by inducting the councilors in Margate. Module 2 entirely deals with municipal governance, where it talks about the three spheres of government, which are National, Provincial and Local government. Module three entails the legislative and policy framework of SALGA, which deals with issues of policies and protocol for the councilors.

There was also a guest presentation by Mrs. N Mabanga from the department of Corporate Governance and Traditional affairs, who was there to explain the role of traditional Leaders in the council.
