The community of Umzimvubu, Alfred Nzo District, Eastern Cape Province and South Africa as a whole were shocked on Thursday 26 February 2015, by the sad news of the passing on of Dr. Saba “Reginald” Mbixane, the ever popular Umhlobo Wenene FM cultural show presenter Lavuth’ibhayi. The multi award winning icon and recipient of the SATMA Award Best Cultural Music DJ and Best Show for 4 consecutive years was involved in a bike accident outside his home town of Mount Frere on February, 09 where he sustained head injuries, which resulted in him being in a coma for more than 3 weeks. This occurred apparently when he was trying to avoid low-flying vultures. DJ Napkin, as he was affectionately known celebrated his 30th year behind the microphone. His radio career kicked off in 1985 when he worked for the former Radio Transkei. Mbixane will be buried at his home in Mandileni Location, Ward 14 on Sunday, 08 of Umzimvubu Local Municipality. A memorial service, which forms part of many others that have been held through-out the country will be held on 07 March 2015 at Madzikane Memorial Ground (Opposite the Madzikane Ka Zulu Memorial Hospital) starting at 09H00 where UWFM, Ukhozi FM, Alfred Nzo Community Radio and Inkonjane FM will be broadcasting live.
