Eskom power utility in consultation with Umzimvubu Local Municipality is determined to connect 600 households with electricity in Ngxabaxha Village. In line with government programmes, the municipality is ensuring that services are rendered to rural areas as per the country’s constitution which assigns municipalities the role of improving the lives of all citizens. Eskom has completed all surveying processes and electrification is expected to commence during the 2018/19 financial year.

A series of consultation between the Municipality, Eskom and community members have been conducted in order to ensure that the community works together with contractors so as to certify that the project is completed in time. Umzimvubu Local Municipality is pleased to announce that the people of Ngxabakazi will also benefit from the construction of the Ngxabaxha Access Road. A contractor has been awarded for the project and construction is expected to commence within 14 days as the official handover of the project has already been done. This is another project that will also open job opportunities for the people of Ngxabaxha Village.

In relation to above mentioned statement, the road will assist the Ngxabaxha community and surrounding villages to easily access essential services. According to the Honourable Mayor, Cllr B.P Mabengu, “The key priority of the municipality is to ensure that all households within Umzimvubu Local Municipality are well electrified by 2030 as per the National Development Plan (NDP). The access roads are also part of our plans in ensuring that we create a viable society which is able to access all mainstream government services.” she concluded.
