“THUMA MINA” TO IMPROVE MORE THAN 4000 LIVES AT UMZIMVUBU LOCAL MUNICIPALITY

In his inaugural State of the Nation Address, President Cyril Ramaphosa quoted the song “Send Me” by the late great musician Hugh Masekela. In doing so he inspired South Africans with the themes of self-sacrifice, individual responsibility and the importance of personal change in mind-sets. On that note, more than 4000 residents are yet to benefit from the ongoing “send me” programme in KwaBhaca and EmaXesibeni.

During the official handover engagement session with the contractor and community members, Mabengu said residents from Marwaqa village will now gain access to basic services and facilities pending completion of the bridge yet to be constructed. She further said 300 residents from the surrounding community will benefit from the 2km access road which will be linked to the bridge.

The programme continued to bring joy to residents at Silindini village. A village, which utilizes a wooden cable cart to cross a fierce river is now at the helm of a newly constructed bridge. The 8 million project is set to take 8 months and will create adequate job opportunities to local residents.

According to Mayor Mabengu,” 14 projects worth 30 million have been handed over to local contractors under the “send me” initiative. The NDP emphasizes the need for South Africans to unite around a common goal, ensure citizens are active in their own development, and build a capable and developmental state.” She concluded.
